The AI SEO market sells three things. None of them is priced per article.
What the money buys
Whether the invoice says AI SEO services, an AI SEO company on retainer, or an AI visibility platform by subscription, the market quotes the program around the content. Read any of the quotes for the line that says what one published article costs. It isn’t there.
01
The retainer: $3,000 to $15,000 a month, quoted on a call.
AI SEO agencies and consultants bundle strategy, technical audits, schema, digital PR, and content into one program. The published tiers run $3,000 to $15,000 a month. Most prices only arrive on a call.
02
The dashboard: it tells you the score. It can’t move it.
AI visibility platforms and checkers track whether AI answers mention you, and report the movement. Keep one if you run one: it’s how you’ll know any of this is working. But monitoring is measurement. The score only moves when something citable gets published.
03
The gig: $50 of prompting, published under your name.
Marketplaces sell AI SEO by the task. What a stranger can prompt from the public Internet is what your competitor’s stranger is prompting from the same Internet: commodity content, the kind AI skips.
Every price covers the program around the content. The content is the part that gets cited.
Every way to get cited, compared →What is commodity content? →
AI SEO, GEO, AEO, LLM SEO. Four names. Google calls it one job.
What is SEO for AI called?
Nobody agrees yet what SEO for AI is called. Agencies sell generative engine optimization services. Consultancies say answer engine optimization (AEO). Practitioners write LLM SEO. Most buyers type AI SEO, and every version is billed somewhere as ai search optimization services. Google’s own guidance for the AI-search era settles the vocabulary question by refusing to have it: “That’s why good SEO is good GEO (or AEO, or AI SEO, or whatever).” Think with Google.
The same guidance names the substance under every acronym: “sharing unique points of view, creating content from first-hand experiences, and showcasing your internal experts.” Not a separate discipline with a new invoice. Published expert content, on the site your company owns.
The name is still being argued. The deliverable never was.
The content every AI SEO plan prescribes. $20 an article, under your name.
Five minutes of your expert’s time
Utopica is not an agency and doesn’t bill like one. It is a content engine you run. Your AI agents turn five minutes of your expert’s time into a researched, fact-checked, illustrated article in their point of view, optimized for AI search and Google, and publish it to your own website in one click. $300 a month for 15 articles. That’s the whole subscription: $20 an article, every article expert-led.
The strategy layer ships with it: a keyword-gap plan mapped to what your buyers ask AI, a calendar that runs it, and one dashboard tying the results to your own Google Analytics and Search Console. Built for you in a one-month custom implementation, then it’s yours to run.
No retainer. No hourly anything.
What an AI SEO agency does that Utopica won’t.
Where the retainer wins
An agency’s program covers ground we don’t sell. Technical SEO and site engineering: if your website itself needs the fix, that is an agency job and worth paying for. Digital PR and link outreach: we publish the content that earns backlinks. The outreach trade is its own market. And monitoring at depth: your AI visibility tracker stays. It’s the instrument, we’re the work it measures.
If you want the full program under one roof with a team on retainer, hire the agency and judge it on its own terms: Utopica vs content marketing agencies gives that model a fair hearing.
We sell the one part every plan prescribes: the content AI cites.
The three questions every AI SEO buyer should ask first.
Ask them before the proposal arrives
The quote deserves the same scrutiny the ranking pages get. These three decide most of it.
01
Isn’t AI-written content exactly what Google penalizes?
What Google’s spam policy names is scaled content abuse: “Using generative AI tools or other similar tools to generate many pages without adding value for users.” Google Search Central, “Spam policies for Google web search”. The violation is empty content at volume, not the tool. Every Utopica article starts from what your expert knows and the Internet doesn’t, carries their name, and publishes on terms you set. That is the value test passed, in writing.
02
Under $1,000 a month. What’s the catch?
The listicles ranking for “ai seo agency” warn that anything under $1,000 a month is a red flag. For an agency it is: a retainer buys strategists, writers, editors, and account managers by the hour. Utopica doesn’t sell hours. A one-month custom implementation builds your content engine; after that, the subscription prices the article, not the people. The catch is the part only you can supply: your expert’s five minutes, a few times a week.
03
Can you buy your way into the AI answer?
No. There is no rate card and no form to submit to: AI assembles its answers from the public web it trusts. Your website is the submission. Whatever ad slots surround AI products, the recommendation itself is built from published, citable sources, which is why the content is the part worth paying for.

Shopping for an AI SEO company? Utopica fits if your clients pay for what your people know.
When an agency is the better buy
Utopica runs on real expertise: the cases your people have seen, the judgment your clients pay for. If nobody in the building holds that, there is nothing for your AI agents to write from, and an agency’s writers are the better buy. If you want volume with no expert involved, the generators will quote you less. AI will skip the result.
We’d rather say all this here than on a call.
